Enter the world of Golden Archway. . .
This is the home of many troubled teens and troubled horses.
How it came to be::
Growing up on Golden Archway Ranch, the sisters Anna and Leah Hathaway inherited the ranch from the father. For years, the two built the ranch into perfection. With pro rodeo horses and riders from across the world, the ranch had developed quite a reputation. The sisters couldn't be happier with their work. The two were excellent horsewomen and competed in all types of western events.
That was until Leah decided to settle down and start a family. With 5 houses on the 500 acre ranch, Leah got married and had children. Over the years she lost her connection with horses and Anna was forced to keep the ranch going on her own. With each passing year, the sisters grew apart. This only caused trouble for Golden Archway Ranch. Anna could not handle it all on her own. Eventually, the ranch went bankrupt. People stopped boarding their money making horses there and before they knew it the ranch had to be shut down with only a few horses left to call it home.
As Leah's daughter grew into a teenager, she became quite the troubled child. Running off with boys became a routine. Thea seemed to hardly care what her family thought and her actions became more and more extreme. Until one day, Leah recieved a phone call.
"Hello?"
"Is this the mother of Thea Lawson?"
"Yes...who is this?" Fear instantly struck her. She knew where this phone call was headed.
"This is officer Dan. Im sorry to report that their has been an accident. Your daughter was driving drunk on the highway and got into a terrible accident. She didn't make it,"
Leah dropped the phone and collapsed to the floor. Tears streamed down her rosy cheeks as reality hit her. Her husband could not handle it. He fled the next day, not able to stand the ranch with his only daughter haunting his every thought. So Leah was left alone on the almost deserted ranch. In a great depression, there was only one person she could turn to. Anna. The loving sister of course accepted her sister with open arms. Together they re-established the ranch. It was a chance to get Leah's mind off of her passed on daughter.
And that was when Anna got the idea. Why not use the ranch to its full potential and start a program to help troubled horses. In Blossom, Texas there were plenty of mistreated or simply abandon horses. With this empty ranch, the two sisters could create a rescue to help make a dent in the growing number of unwanted horses. They quickly started the rescue. Leah gained back her confidence on horses and in no time the two girls were addicted to the ranch.
The next year, on the day of Thea's death, Leah sat in the ten acre pasture, pondering and reflecting. The joy of saving horses was the only thing keeping her going and preventing her mind from going into depression. A single tear raced down her face. She still felt a hole in her heart and it seemed to be growing once again. The horses brought her daily joy yet something was missing...
"Anna, I feel like we aren't doing enough. Let's help troubled teens as well. I know Thea could have used it... I'm sure there are millions of other teens out there that are just begging to be saved from their dangerous habits and rebellious ways,"
And that was how Golden Archway Ranch started its program for Troubled Teens and Equines. Coming together, the teens and equines help heal each other. They bond and grow together to end up being better in everything they do.
